Lambson Building Products Add New Profile Wrapping Machine

Lambson Building Products and Laminated Products have installed a state-of-the-art, high speed Barberan profile wrapping machine, in their Castleford facility.

The new wrapping line is capable of processing 50 linear metres of material every minute and can handle any profile shape, up to 300mm wide, with minimal set-up times. The equipment also utilises superior polyurethane (PUR) glue, offering a more permanent, waterproof bond that will not delaminate like some traditional lesser quality adhesives.

Head of Technical Development, Marcus Langley was thrilled with the new acquisition. “It’s a wonderful bit of kit, it can apply paper, vinyl and PVC to any sort of timber, MDF, plastic and aluminium profile. Combine that with labour savings and the increased manufacturing speed, this machine enables us to offer a superior product at a very competitive price.”

The impressive speed of the wrapping machine did have one drawback though. To cope with the additional volume of material, a new feeding and stacking system had to be built. This meant extra space, something that is always at a premium in any factory. A new floor plan had to be drawn up and existing machines and walk ways had to be moved. However, these site changes were deemed to be well worth the effort, for the increase in manufacturing capacity the line provided.

Marcus continued “The demand for our wrapped profiles has always been high but orders have rapidly grown over the last four years or so. We had to increase our manufacturing capabilities, it’s as simple as that. Now, together with the two new Weinig Moulders we purchased last year, we have increased our profiles capacity by nearly 60%. This will ensure we can cope with any new orders for many years to come.”

The new machinery is not a one off outlay, but is just the latest stage of the company’s component development strategy. The last decade has seen investment in design software, CNC equipment and increased storage and new moulders. The bold strategy has allowed Lambson Building Products and Laminated Products to steal a march on their competitors and firmly establish themselves as market leaders.

Marcus concluded “This investment is another big step forward for the company. The idea has always been to future proof the site, improving our flexibility, capacity and output. We’re now well down the road to achieving our goals, as a company.”
