Lambson Building Products and Laminated Products to Plant 50 Trees in the Yorkshire Dales.

Lambson Building Products and Laminated Products have partnered with the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust to plant 50 trees in Nidderdale, North Yorkshire, as part of anniversary celebrations.

Climate change is an increasingly important area of business management, with strong pressure being placed on companies to respond to this urgent problem. While Lambson Building Products and Laminated Products have been working hard, over the last decade, with their employees, customers and suppliers to improve on all aspects of sustainability, the company directors still felt more could be done.

Reforestation is a popular initiative within the timber industry, the planting of new trees to replace those lost while harvesting raw timber. With that in mind, the company contacted Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust and commissioned the planting of 50 trees, one tree for each year the company has been in operation.

Glenn Monkman, Managing Director, spoke about the work with Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust ,

“This is first time we’ve supported a project like this but it won’t be the last. We realise that a company of our size has an increasing obligation to help protect our environment, and as we celebrate 50 years in the timber industry, it seems the right time to take a more proactive approach to climate change.”

The planting of new trees is just one of the ways Lambson Building Products and Laminated Products are trying to mitigate their impact on the environment. The company is also working to cut emissions directly as they move to use more energy efficient machinery, company vehicles and lighting. The company also recently installed a biomass heating system which runs on the waste timber from their production facility.

Glenn Monkman concluded,

“I believe we can be proud of the fact that we are trying to change our ways and hopefully setting an example for all manufacturers in the region. Climate change is the biggest challenge facing the world today and while our contribution is relatively small, we still want to do our part to protect the environment for future generations.”

Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust was established in the mid 90s and has helped to plant around 1.5 million broadleaf trees throughout the Yorkshire Dales in that time. The trust is currently working on their ‘Get Together for Trees’ campaign, which aims to plant a further 100,000 trees over the next two years.
